The China Navigation Co. (CNCo) has received a Green Flag Award from The Port of Long Beach in recognition of the company’s environmental performance in the US west coast port. The award was granted for each vessel complying 100% with the port’s Voluntary Vessel Speed Reduction (VVSR) Programme during 2006, while the port’s average compliance rate increased to 82% in the year. The VVSR programme was established jointly by several federal, state and trade bodies together with the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, to contribute towards improved air quality in southern California and further afield. Specifically cited in the 2006 award was CNCO’s vessel Pacific Adventure, as well as the Swire Shipping operated chartered vessels, Pacific Fighter and Pacific Future.
