Pacific Adventurer incident off Queensland - 11th March 2009
07 Apr 2009,
CNCo's Pacific Adventurer was caught in the tail of a tropical cyclone just east of Brisbane, Australia, on 11th March 2009 resulting in the loss of 31 containers overboard, some of which punctured two fuel tanks in the process and created an extensive oil spill along the south Queensland coast. The vessel and its crew were, fortunately, safe after the accident and the vessel was brought into Brisbane port. There was a great deal of media interest in this event and its aftermath, exacerbated by its occurence in the middle of a closely-contested State election campaign. In order not to prejudice ongoing investigations into the accident, it is inappropriate for CNCo to tell its own full story at this stage. Pacific Adventurer sailed from Brisbane on 16th April 2009, having undertaken temporary repairs, to discharge cargo in Asia and proceed to drydock for full restoration. To learn more about this accident, we refer you to media reports in the New Zealand Shipping Gazette dated 21 March, 2009, and in Lloyd's List DCN dated 02 April, 2009.
