What can you say about a company that has been around for over a century? Its record speaks for itself.
Having worked for CNCo/SPSM for 25years they must be doing something right to have managed to keep me employed for such a long time! In terms of shipping companies it is a small family orientated company that puts family matters first. This is very important to a person who is away from his family for about 60% of the time, he knows that whatever happens at home he has the support of the company behind him.
Training is another of CNCo’s main concerns: if cadets are trained properly then they will become good reliable junior officers and with the right commitment then their path to eventual Master/Chief engineer is guaranteed. From a point of view of training this company has a wide selection of ship types where cadets can learn all the different skills from the simple rope splice to reeving a wire in a crane. This is essential so that one day he will be able to instruct the next generation of cadets to do the same.
Although a small company by the standards of the global ‘mega-liners’, the company routes are varied, with the Pacific basin being the main trade area, two round the world services calling in the USA, Middle East and Far East, and finally a service that runs from New Zealand to Asia. This gives ample opportunity to sample the various trades and not get tired of being on the same route all the time. It also makes us appreciate the different cultures in various countries that the ships visit. Life on board ship of course has both its downside and upside, but all the company ships have an extensive Library of DVDs, videos and books, various games from cards through to darts and some have a gymnasium and swimming pool and. The social life on board is very important - each ship has a bar and it is here that in the evenings is the social hub of the vessel where everything form the "Job" to the latest news from home are discussed.
